Nissan Rogue Oil Change Guide

To change the oil in your Nissan Rogue, you can follow this step-by-step guide. However, if you don’t want to change your oil at home, you can always schedule an appointment at our service center near Woodland.

Step 1: Lift Your Vehicle and Open the Undertray

First things first, lift your vehicle high enough that you have space to work under it. There are a variety of options, including a hoist, ramps, or jack stands, be sure to check that things are safe. Absolutely, never work under a car if it is only held up by a floor jack.

Step 2: Unplug & Drain Your Oil Reserve

Drivers can use a variety of options, including a five-gallon bucket or oil drain pan to catch the oil. You can purchase oil change kits or oil pans alone at most auto parts stores. Place it in a position where oil will drain into it. Keep in mind: there will be a lot of oil so make sure you have a large enough vessel. Simply, remove the drain plug by turning it counterclockwise with the proper wrench and unscrewing it. Slowly remove the drain plug, as soon as you pull it away from the pan, the oil will start draining. Allow the oil to drain until the flow has slowed to a trickle.

Step 3: Remove the Old Filter

After emptying the engine, you will need to take the old filter off with an oil filter wrench. There will be more oil pouring out as you’re doing this, so move slowly and keep your oil pan underneath the filter. Prior to installing a new filter, take the time to verify that the old oil filter gasket, shaped like a rubber O-ring, has been removed as well. It’s always important to use an old rag to wipe down any remaining oil.Ā

Step 4: Replace Drain Plug & Oil Filter

Next, you’ll want to replace the drain plug, tightening it until it’s snug. Never tighten it too much. Overtightening can cause damage. Then you’ll want to replace the new oil filter and apply a light coating of oil. Put a bit on your finger, around the edge of the rubber gasket on the top of the filter. Again, screw this into place, but not too tightly.

Step 5: Refill with Oil

After you are done replacing the oil filter and drain plug, you can place the undertray back into position under the car and put the car back on the ground. Then use a funnel and refill the engine with the correct volume and type of oil. Take the time to ensure that there are no leaks after a few minutes of the vehicle being filled.
